Roger Federer was born in Basel, Switzerland on 8th August 1981 . A right handed player, Roger turned professional in 1998. Roger Federer began playing tennis at the age of eight. His heroes were Boris Becker and Pete Sampras. In 1998 itself, Roger ranked No 1 in the Junior Wimbledon and defeated Labadze. He has won two Wimbledon titles and his world ranking is now Number 1.

His style of playing tennis is technically very correct and he is as adept at volleys and serves as he is at playing from the baselines. Strength combined with style give him a lethal combination and Federer is a treat to watch on the courts. He has amazing balance and co ordination and moves like lightning around the court. His hand eye co ordination allows him to hit back each ball with clean sweeps. At 80 kags and a 6 foot tall frame, Federer moves with grace and agility that is difficult to match.

His pastimes include lazing around on the beach, playing cricket and table tennis.
