Kavita Krishnamurthy

Kavita Krishnamurthy Kavita Krishnamurthy, born Sharda Krishnamurthy in Delhi, is among India`s best playback singers today. Coming from a talented background, Krishnamurthy moved to Mumbai to pursue her musical career. Her first bollywood song was officially credited in 1980 in the film Maang Bharo Sajana. Some later songs she has sung include: "Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon", "Hawa Hawai" (Mr. India), "Julie, Julie", "Mera Piya Ghar" (Yaarana), "Aaj Mein Upar" and not to forget her flirtatious rendition of "Main cheez badi hoon mast mast" from the 1994 film Mohra. She was the only soundtrack vocalist for music director R. D. Burman`s movie 1942: A Love Story. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2005. She is married to L. Subramaniam, a famous violinist with whom she occasionally collaborates.

Kavita KrishnamurthyIt is believed by many critics that Kavita Krishnamurthy is the prime prospect to inherit Lata Mangeshkar`s mantle of greatness. Praised by composers like Ismail Darbar, who lauds her as the only playback singer in Mumbai who regularly does riyaaz (drills in classical technique), she has distinguished herself throughout two decades of work with her mastery of intricate sequences and her comfort in the high end of the vocal range. Her performance in 2002`s Devdas has brought her particular acclaim.
